Boost for pets as new flagship Leeds practice set to open

A NEW £1.4million veterinary practice, which will benefit thousands of pets across Leeds, is set to open.

Beechwood Veterinary Group is opening the new state-of-the-art facility at Temple House in Seacroft.

Some of the team members based at Beechwood’s current practices in Crossgates and Chapel Allerton, Leeds, will transfer to the new site in a huge logistical operation, which is now underway before the surgery opens to clients on May 23rd.

Clients bringing their pets for treatments and routine care will benefit from the latest high-tech new equipment, including:

  • Seven consulting rooms so more pets can be seen by vets and nurses
  • Three operating theatres with top surgical facilities
  • A dedicated x-ray room
  • Ultrasound to diagnose heart conditions, tumours and changes in abdominal organs
  • Dental theatre with dental x-ray
  • Separate cat and dog wards

The additional operating space will enable Beechwood Vets to offer laparoscopy, or keyhole surgery, providing a minimally invasive alternative to a traditional spay surgery, as well as procedures like biopsies of the liver, kidneys and intestines.

The practice will also have a dedicated room to provide a calm, quiet space for clients and their pets during difficult times, bringing comfort to owners whose pets are receiving end-of-life care.

Funding for the £1.4million expansion has been provided by VetPartners, a York-based veterinary group which has nearly 150 of the UK’s most respected and trusted small animal, equine, mixed and farm practices.

The relocation will lead to the recruitment of additional team members, including vets and nurses.

Following the opening of the new practice, Beechwood’s previous sites  at Crossgates, and Chapel Allerton will remain open as branch surgeries for routine healthcare, along with the other surgeries in Beeston and Garforth.

The new site was previously office space that has been converted to meet the needs of a busy veterinary practice.

Beechwood Vets Clinical Director Louise Mallinson, right, said: “We will be able to offer a much better service at the new practice as there is much more space for improved facilities and it will be much more comfortable for clients and patients.

“Having separate cat and dog facilities creates a much more relaxed and comforting space for patients, especially cats, and having on-site parking will be a huge bonus for our clients.

“As well as providing improved facilities for clients and patients, it will also be great place to work for our veterinary team. It’s an exciting time for us all as we have been closely involved in the planning process to ensure the practice meets everyone’s needs.”

The new site will be big enough to handle a wider variety of cases such as orthopaedics, soft tissue issues and tumour analysis.

Beechwood Vets currently have four surgeries across Leeds in Crossgates, Chapel Allerton, Beeston and Garforth, providing emergency care for pets, as well as general healthcare, vaccinations, medical investigations, surgical procedures including orthopaedics, cardiology clinics, dietary advice and dental work.
