A HISTORIC West Yorkshire pub that swapped pints for pets has undergone a £50,000 revamp to create a state-of-the art veterinary practice.
Chantry Vets took over The Mexborough pub in Castleford in 2011 to expand their surgeries and the site and has now undergone a fresh upgrade following investment in new facilities and equipment.
As well as a new operating theatre and prep room, they have built kennels, upgraded the dispensary and created a new cat-only area in the waiting-room.
The practice in Church Street has also invested in a laboratory for new in-house blood testing equipment, costing £20,000, along with a new digital x-ray and £24,000 ultrasound scanner.
The Mexborough, which dated back 200 years, was once Castleford’s oldest pub and the building lies on a site of an old Roman fort dating back to the First Century AD.
Chantry Vets Practice Manager Victoria Lee said: “We have dramatically changed the surgery since we bought it in 2011 and the latest revamp has continued the transformation.
“Our practice team will be able to work more efficiently with the new facilities and equipment and it has made a real difference to our day to day work. We have been able to raise the level of service we provide for pet owners.
“It is a busy surgery so we want to provide the best possible service and facilities and make sure clients and their pets are comfortable.”
Nearly 1,000 pets come through the doors each month at the surgery, which is part of VetPartners Limited, parent company of some of the UK’s most trusted and respected veterinary practices.
Chantry Vets’ Castleford branch employs seven members of staff, including clinical director Ryan Lotter, who oversees the management of complex cases and has a special interest in dermatology, and senior veterinary nurse Liz Hey, who is qualified in physiotherapy and rehab.
