VetPartners encouraging children to pursue dream of a veterinary career

VETPARTNERS is hoping to inspire the next generation of vets and veterinary nurses by encouraging more young people into the profession.

A new booklet, packed with information for children and teens who dream of a career as a vet or veterinary nurse, has been launched by VetPartners in time for the return to school after the summer holidays.

The easy-to-read resource is perfect for  VetPartners practice colleagues to hand out if they receive enquiries from children or parents seeking careers advice.

As well as an insight into the role of vets and nurses and information on what qualifications are required, there are tips on how to encourage children to pursue their dream of a veterinary career.

The project was the idea of Christina Kuhl, who began her career as a small animal vet and is now Clinical and Client Content Senior Manager at VetPartners.

While working as a vet she was often asked for careers advice by children during consults and wanted to create a booklet that will inspire their curiosity until they are old enough to attend formal work experience.

Christina said: “To help encourage this enthusiasm when receiving enquiries, we wanted to develop a booklet with helpful information to prevent our budding future colleagues being sent away empty handed.

“This booklet is aimed at children and teens with an interest in working in practice. The information featured offers insight into the role of vets and nurses, including the qualifications required.

“As a group, VetPartners is passionate about promoting veterinary practice to young people from a range of backgrounds and we hope this will be the first of several steps aimed at inspiring the next generation of veterinary professionals.”

The booklet also contains information on other careers in veterinary practice, including animal care assistants, vet technicians and receptionists, as well as alternative jobs working with animals, such as animal behaviourists and veterinary physiotherapists.
