New Graduate Vet – Maes Glas – Bridgend, South Wales
We have an exciting opportunity available for a New Graduate Vet to join our expanding small animal team on the beautiful South Wales coast!
Our hospital is situated in Bridgend, which is nestled between the bright lights of Cardiff to the East, and Swansea to the West, the rugged Brecon Beacons to the North, and the award-winning beaches to the South. So, whether it’s a night on the tiles or a day spent hiking or surfing, this area really does have it all. The Welsh have a great word called ‘hiraeth,’ which translates in English to a deep longing for home, and it is easy to understand why the Welsh always return home.
We work out of a high-quality hospital premises and are committed to excellent clinical care and extremely high standards. Our practice has silver level cat friendly status from the ISFM and we have been awarded “outstanding” in 5 separate RCVS awards.
We have extensive experience of employing new or recent graduate Vets, with many of our current Vets having started their professional careers with ourselves. We understand that although you graduate with your day one competencies, it takes time to develop confidence in your abilities.
How We Can Help:
With the assistance of our fantastic and diverse team of nurses, support colleagues, and Vets (including advanced practitioners in both medicine and surgery), we would relish the opportunity to assist you in developing your skills and grow your confidence within the profession, allowing you to flourish. Alongside the support from our team, you will also be enrolled on the VetPartners new graduate program (https://vetpartners.co.uk/graduates/) and the new RCVS Graduate Development Program.
As a practice, we host regular in-house CPD and clinical clubs. You would also be eligible to join any of the countless number of special interest groups within VetPartners, allowing you to discuss, amongst many other things, complicated cases, new literature, or upcoming CPD with fellow peers from all over the UK. The job currently involves a varied mixture of consulting, medical investigations, and surgical caseloads. Vets generally have 1 full operating day a week and 3 days of consulting, operating, and procedures.
As a practice, we actively encourage our Vets to follow their cases through from consultation to diagnosis and treatment. Once your confidence has grown, we would love for you to be able to carry out some branch work, with the reassurance of always having the ability to ask for help when needed.
Veterinary Surgeons currently work a 1:12 out-of-hours rolling rota, which includes 2-part weekends, 2 Saturday mornings, and 1 week of nights. The remaining 11 weeks are an average 4-day week. Whilst on-call, you will always have the full support of one of our friendly senior Veterinary clinicians, who will be there to advise and help you with anything that you may need.
