VetPartners’ finance team honoured in prestigious awards

VETPARTNERS’ finance team has been praised for the way it supports its family of UK veterinary practices.

The team was named Finance Team of the Year at the Yorkshire Finance Leader Awards, with judges praising how they had succeeded in ensuring “strong cultural alignment” with the wider business, and on their resilience and adaptability in the face of nationally significant growth.

The 120-strong finance team handles all aspects of financial management, including management accounts, purchase ledger, Treasury, payroll, tax, credit control, financial planning and analysis and financial projects and systems.

Their awards success comes at a time when VetPartners has undergone significant growth and challenges  faced by the finance team to provide a high level of practice-focused support while developing systems and processes on a significant scale.

Led by vets, VetPartners was founded in 2015 by CEO Jo Malone, and now has 160 of the UK’s most respected and trusted small animal, mixed, farm and equine practices, employing more than 6,000 people across nearly 550 sites in the UK and from its headquarters in York.

Supporting our family of practices

The finance team has forged close links with practices to ensure strong support and was rewarded with the accolade at the Yorkshire Finance Leader Awards, which recognises and celebrates the outstanding achievements of the region’s strong finance community.

VetPartners Group Financial Controller Tom Brundle said: “The team is really pleased to have received this acknowledgement of their hard work. VetPartners presents a large number of challenges due to the speed we’ve grown and I think many team members believe this constantly moving environment is normal, so it’s good for everyone to be reminded that we’re extraordinary.

“We spoke at length to the judging panel about the challenges that each team in finance has faced in continuing to provide a high level of practice-focused support.

“We all know Jo has a clear vision of VetPartners being practice-focused and with people at its forefront, and we endeavour to ensure everyone in the team understands the key elements of this vision. Every member of the team seeks to put the practices first and make financial processes as straightforward as possible for our practice teams, while maintaining the accuracy and reliability that is expected of finance.”

VetPartners received their award in front of an audience of more than 200 finance leaders and professionals at The Royal Armouries in Leeds, when the achievements of some of the region’s brightest financial talents were celebrated by their peers in a glittering ceremony.

Tom added: “I’m hugely proud of what everyone in our finance team has achieved. This award only begins to acknowledge the enormous effort put in by everyone across the business, but is a fantastic testament to how far we’ve come.”
